Values & Philosophy

It is so important to outline Roam Sporthorses' approach to training & equine bodywork clearly:

Prioritize the Horse's Wellbeing

  • Goal: To put the physical, mental, and emotional health of the horse is at the forefront of all decisions and interactions with them.
  • Action: Prioritize their feeling of safety and comfort in both their body & environment, observe the horse’s behavior, and be flexible in our training and rest as needed to maintain their overall wellbeing. Always allowing the horse to be in a physical and mental state to learn and train while keeping their physical, mental, and emotional health priority in balance.

Allow the Horses to Have Harmony in their Life with Us

  • Goal: Establish a consistent routine that creates comfort and trust for the horse. Make sure they have balance in being a horse & an athlete.
  • Action: Allow the horses to have consistency and have awareness of their comforts to help the horses feel secure and connected with us, fostering a strong partnership based on mutual trust. With thoughtful care, bodywork & patience allow them to find comfort in their bodies and harmony with us.

Build Partnership Through Empathy and Kindness

  • Goal: Develop trust with the horse based on compassion, patience, and empathy. Be open to ways we can strength the partnership & bond.
  • Action: Strive to have interactions with the horse thoughtfully, recognizing their needs and emotional states, and responding with kindness to encourage cooperation and trust. Have curiosity and awareness of our own emotions and expectations, but also have empathy with ourselves to try again when we don’t give the horse what they need the first time.

Trust the Process and Ensure Safety

  • Goal: Commit to the training process while maintaining a strong focus on safety and preparedness. Understanding goals are vital for excellence, however, safety of the horse and the rider is the most important.
  • Action: Set realistic short-term and long-term goals, track progress, and adjust the approach as necessary. Always prioritize safety for both horse and rider during training and competition. Keep the focus on hitting the marks along the journey and enjoying the process.

Strive for Excellence Through Consistent Effort

  • Goal: Set high standards for both performance and behavior, and dedicate yourself to consistent effort in training.
  • Action: Regularly assess progress, set challenging yet achievable safe goals, and maintain a disciplined work ethic to continually improve skills and results.

Remember the Love for the Horse

  • Goal: Stay grounded in the passion and love for horses that started the journey.
  • Action: Regularly reflect on the joy and fulfillment that comes from working with horses, and let that passion inspire every decision and action in your training and care.
